Poem: "Coyote Bird"

Coyote bird
Unheard
Stalking between
The unseen
Her desert blooms
Dusty plumes
Shed the ghosts
Entombed

With moonlit petals
In winds unsettled
By broken Day’s
Last rays
She turns the tides
Night spread wide
Star grazing
On the rise

Even still
Your trill
Begets
Regret
To wail
Howling
Prowling
Love assailed

Her feathers drop
You spin the clock
And man
The hand
Of time
Stalling
Calling
The final chime

Your eyes deem
Asleep in dream
Her thirst
At first
To be yours
Unbeknown
To the tattooed stones
Marking her doors

Down come the rains
And she remains
Coyote bird
Unheard
Her desert blooms
Now golden plumes
Turn skies
To fiery fumes

The Labor Pains of Our Mothering
Great Expectations
